Does anyone know what 5e engine has the Intake manifold stamped acoustic................I cannot remember it all. It has 8 runners. 4 long and 4 short. The 4 short aren controlled by 4 butterflies and open sometime during operation. Obviously at high rpms. My USDM engine only had 4 runners, regular intake manifold. Any ideas, it has to be good

my original had stamped on it EFI......This new one is stamped EFI-S. It is really cool and looks like it functionality is great. Variable intake, neat. Any information

i sort of know what your on about..

the jdm 5efhe engine has some sort of vtec system for fuel econemy..

at 3700 rpm these buterflys open to aid the engines performance somehow..

There's no Vtec type think to the 5e-fhe, Otherwise it would say VVTL-i on it. Don't know too much about the 5e-fhe intake manifold or how it works, but from what's been already said, it makes sense that the extra butterfly valves would open to allow more air, and more air means more power. The Haynes extreme performance manual said it best, a car's power is directly proportional to the amout of air it can take in.

No variable valve timing. But variable intake. Ford has just put that on their new focus svt. There toyota is with it over 12 years ago. The second set of runners are a bit smaller in diameter. The big ones are about 1.25" the smaller about 1". What a compensation for full throttle. The 5efhe is supposed to have higher compression, I never knew about anything with the intake. Ill let you all know how it works

knew someone on another forum who went on about this on his engine...

he said the butterflys openat 3700rpm.. he programed them to open early and said he dident notice any real difference.

I am not sure how you would program them to open early. They are controlled by the vacuum, I believe. They are not electronically controlled.

Must be only late 5E-FHE's that had this. Seras don't have it.
