Must you remove the transmission when removing the engine or can yu remove the crank pulley instead. I have to remove it to install a new timing belt as is. Has it been done and still keep the tranny in?

The MR2 needs the engine dropping but not the others. Defo not the Seo as I just had mine done. :)

I am replacing the engine with a JDM engine and while I have it out I am replacing the major components. Water pump, thermostat, oil pan gasket (clean out), oil screen. My question being when I swap should I pull the tranny out with the engine.

I meant that i have to remove the crank pulley to replace the timing belt so would it be easier to keep it off and replace engines without having to pull the tranny. If i kept the pulley off it would prob give me enough room to mate it to the tranny.
