Hello Everyone, my names Adam and im from east yorkshire

i dont have an IQ a the moment, but am seriously looking into getting one, maybe within the next couple of months, in time for the august/summertime

anyway

i have looked in an iq sat in one, havent driven one yet, thats next on the agenda im just wondering if anyone could help me with a few questions i have

firstly the keyless entry, how does it work, i know it may sound stupid but ive never used keyless entry before except for obviously just central locking on the key fob , what im basically saying is, how do i unlock the car, does it automatically unlock when i go near the car, as long as i have the key with me? also how do i lock it when i leave the car, and then how would i check that its locked?

if i went back upto it would i have to leave the key somewhere in the house or with someone else so i could go and check it , reason being maybe if i had the key on me it would just be unlocked whenever i was near it? or do you have to press something on the car? as i say im a complete newbie to keyless entry so i probably sound like a fool , and i do indeed have no idea what im talking about, also can the keyless entry be disabled or would there be no need, if its all safe and lock proplerly, also the keyless start how does that work is that along the same lines, as in no one can start it unless they have the key on them. i hope someone can understand what im talking about and can help? any comments back will be greatly appreciated

Also any other info about the cars, seen as you own them and have experienced them, things to look out for when visiting the dealers, any really bad problems that maybe if you knew before buying one, would have put you off and not bought one?

i am really looking forward to hopefully getting one to replace my old corsa, its the car i passed my driving test in and want something out of the ordinary not run off the mill, good looking, comfortable and has all the stuff on it, many thanks to you all in anticipation of you getting back to me

Hmmm well....first of all welcome!!

Keyless entry - you have the fob anywhere on you, you have to actually put your hand 'inside' the door handle to operate the unlock (or press the button on the boot). Starting the car requires you to depress the clutch n press the button in the dash so it cant start by mistake eg the kids cant do it! Locking the car is soooo easy - exit the car, shut all doors, slide your finger over the handle and its locked....do twice to double lock, the lights flash as you lock it so you know you have done it right!!!

Cant advise you on what to look out for.....am very satisfied with my IQ2 though. IF you want more umf (go!) then consider the IQ3 but I find mine is quite nippy and comfy

BTW I am from E Yorks too!!!!!!!!!!!!!! near Hull...........

that all sounds acceptable and easy enough!!

this may sound dumb after now understand that, but say i wanted to just check it was locked, with my car, i just pull handle and its locked, with the iq what would i do obviously i cant press button on boot as it would just open again(?) or use door handle, as it would unlock, anyway little more help there, sorry if i sound thick.

regarding which engine to go for, i will be going for the iq2, also it has to be automatic as i only have a driving licence to drive automatics, reason being i cant use a clutch because i have a lot of knee/joint problems in my left leg...

also my car is insurance group 1 the iq, 2 which is still good, as im only 19 (passed my test 2 years ago nearly).i did look at maybe getting an aygo as my mum has the 107 but have read a lot of complaints about the roof leaks and indeed my mums 107 has leaked and all in all the iq seems a far superior car, i also read on here about the plastics been easy to scratch? id obviously be careful but i hope its not too bad, ill have to check next time we go to toyota dealer see what they are truly like, hopefully if everything goes according to plan i would get one within 2 or 3 months so just wanting to know as much about them as i can really, cant wait for a test drive, which will be in a couple of weeks, hopefully along with other info i find on here it will seal the deal so i can go ahead and get one when the time comes, and i think id get one in white and good to see another person in east yorkshire, im in Goole talk soon

You cannot check it if you have the key in range as you say will unlock. You can hear the lock activate and the lights flash which you can easily see on the wing mirror indicators. I have never felt the need to check this. I love the keyless entry as never go anywhere without my handbag and don't have to route around for keys.

I only ever drove the 1.0 as the 1.3 not available when I bought mine last March -think I would have still gone for the 1.0 though as the difference in performance not worth it for me ( having come from a Subaru -lol)

I am 41 but only had 2 years insurance as always named driver on my husbands car - I pay around £200 comp with no excess. I still love the car after a year and my husband actually commented just last week that it is the best car we have ever had ( not necessarily "the best" - lol but in terms of value and fun then I have to agree)

I would just like to correst cvn25's comment about not being able to check that the car is locked, you can. After you have touched the top of the handle to lock it, you have 6 seconds to check that the doors are actually locked by pulling on the handle as if you were going to open it again. In these 6 seconds the car will not re-open, which enables you to check that it actually has locked. An excellent idea if I may say so by MrT. I do this all the time as I still like to check maunually, I guess I will learn to trust it.

In addition the 'key fob' also has the normal remote central locking buttons in case the keyless entry doesn't work, and also contains a proper key inside the fob (which is removed by pressing a small button on the side) which can be used if the Battery is dead. So there are 3 ways the car can be locked and unlocked. But once you go keyless I don't think you'll ever want to go back.

I personally love the keyless system, it saves having to mess about finding your keys in the bottom of your bag, and especially great in rainy weather when you can just run up to the car, grab the handle and jump in.

Can't comment about the 1.0l engine as I never drove one. But I have read on here that it is more than capeable for the job. Plus the insurance is group 3 on the 1.3l so you are probably better off with the iQ2 to save on the insurance.

I've never driven the Aygo either, but the Citroen C1 and the Peugeot 107 are identical cars all with the same Toyoya engine that's in the Aygo, so if you're looking for something different then the iQ is the one to go for. Have you seen the threds on here about the Aston Martin Cygnet? It's a small economical car which Aston Martin have developed, which I understand will only be sold to exsisting Aston car owners, and yes, this is based on the Toyota iQ. Enough said I think.

Yes it does have it's faults, like any car, but they are not bad enough to put you off buying one. Personally my car has not suffered from the easily scratched panels like others have experienced, mine is a '59' plate so made quite a while after some of the earliest ones, and they seem to have rectified that problem (although I'm not saying it's not impossible to scratch it as you can) plus it was an ex demonstrator so would have been put through it's paces and it hardly has any marks at all.

All I can say is go for a test drive and see what you think. Oh, and don't forget to try out the turning circle on it, you will be amazed! It still makes me smile even now.

Hope this has helped.

My car is one of the first, a Feb 2009 '58' plate and I have no scratches on my doors...

I would say deffo get one because they are really a head turner, people come up to me all the time and ask questions, want to look inside etc etc and its really fun to drive! The 1.0 is more than capable of going over the speed limit (not that you will of course)

I also cannot live without keyless entry/ keyless start and any future car purchase I make will HAVE to have this feature!!!

Yup! The keyless entry/start is a very nice feature. I also like the stop/start mechanism our iQ3 has as well. That works just about 100% of the time. The iQ is a very nice car indeed. If we could get better than 40mpg consistently I'd be happier still.

we went to the toyota dealers today, just to have a look at the iq once again, as its about a month since we last went, and had a closer look at the plastics, the legroom behind driver/passenger among other things

as its mainly just me and my partner in the car, just the 2 of us in the car, as both my mum and dad have cars the rear legroom isnt important/essential, as we were walking upto the car i was thinking how brilliant it does look, especially this one as it had the chrome cover door mirrors and was in white, which is my favourite colour for the iq. once we were inside i got into my driving poition, and my partner could actually sit behind me and obviously the legroom wasnt immense but was enough for maybe an hours journey, not too scrunched up and if need be could sit with legs on the back seat, and read a book or something. for the two of us theres ample space up front and i thought the small porthole like rear windows might not be the best, but for parking i suppose it wont ve that bad as the back of the car, the rear windscreen you see, is the back thats it , nothing more, so i reckon it would be easy to judge and vision wouldnt be too hampered also just checked as i had seen on parkers car reviews, on the pictures , id seen the rear seat life up for storage , and lifted it up and its not that bad, sat nav/the odd book maybe the manuals for the car as the glovebag isnt huge , all in all i really do love the cars, so good to look at, (also sat in the aygo, ona totally different league to the iq) we didnt have a test drive today but when it gets near the time of getting one obviously i will then, and if all is well which i cant imagine why it shouldnt be ill be getting one! also a little note as were were leaving the showroom a white iq came in with trade plates, with a dealer in the passenger side and a very smiley woman driving, just pulling it up the showroom. i cant wait till the time comes i get one, ive only seen 1 other one round here, and i dont see that now, a shame, but im sure ill be happy with the purchase i make

also thanks for the info youve all given me, itsbeen helpful and with the car itself there really isnt anything to put me off

Adam,

We find rear visibility a bit restrictive especially if we're at an angle waiting to join the traffic flow. The rear pillars are of course structurally essential. Ours was a dealers car and has the 1300 engine and came fitted with the rear sensors and satnav. The sensors are ok for what they try to do but the tone makes it difficult to distinguish whether you are one meter from something or 10cm. The satnav is very good and the maps are on an SD card but I don't know if Mr. T will offer upgrades for them at a later time. So, buy your iQ and enjoy it. It's a truly amazing little car. Personally, we find it looks so much nicer than the so-called Smart. To me, there's no comparison. Having driven a Smart I'd not part company with a single penny to buy one but that's my opinion of course.

Hello everyone, seems a while since i have posted on here, just a quick update to whats been happening, well first not very good news at all

we were on our way to subikhorpe last sunday to look in the toyota garage at the iq we got to a junction, i looked right to see if anything was coming, a 4x4 towing a caravan so i stopped at the give way, i didnt think iwould get out before it, then bang, a black vauxhall frontera 4x4 straight into the back of me, when we got out, her explanation for the crash was, she saw the caravan as she was coming behind me, and thought i can get out of there, so kept her foot down, to keep going, and bang we hadnt moved/we had stopped, she thought she could get out but failed to realise/notice that we had stopped, so she crashed into the back, anyway obviously got onto insurers, thats all in the process of getting sorted one thing we do know, my car is a total loss, we thought it would be, anyway with that out of the way, we went round some garages today and were looking at the smart fortwo/suzuki alto/old style honda jazz/fiat 500 so we did and i had atest drive of one the cars, a 10 plate toyota iq2 , and i have one word which i cannot get out my head regarding the steering, driving experience, the whole overall car and that word is brilliant! also the dealer showed us the turning circle and that was simply amazing , an empty side road, and we must have gone round about 8 or 9 times, good fun, who would have thought doinga turn in the road could ever be so much fun! anyway so basically i will be getting an iq whether it is the iq or the iq 2, im not really bothered, i want a car with air con, thats my main priority, also the tax/mpg of the iq, i just love the car

so i shall be getting one hopefully when everything with my car is sorted, also just a note, my mum who was with me, mentioned about toyota aygos leaking, he said to his knowledge the aygo has never leaked since its been out, so he doesnt seem to know everything, also i asked him to demonstrate the keyless entry which he did, so yeah an iq for me please, within a month hopefully

Hello everyone once again, ive thought of a couple more questions now... :D i thought i would ask them here , as the nearest toyota dealer is 20 miles and have no way of getting there anyway its easier talking to you friendly lot on here

here goes, i have just been looking in the brochure and had a weird thought , i knew you could control radio functions, volume, channel whatever on the steering wheel, but can you or can you not on the actual thing itself or is there any other dials so the passenger could change track/channel or is it only the driver who can using the wheel. regarding the readout , as in what track number, radio station, where does that information come onto, the little screen with how many miles youve done next to the wheel?. also ive seen it but have not had a good look but above the cd player in the iq, is that just a sort of information centre regarding the air bags/locking?

oh also how do you connect an ipod to the car , do you have to have external leads, or just use the aux or i have heard an ipod integration system? any idea how much that would be ?

many thanks

talk soon

The standard IQ CD/Radio (i.e. not one with the integrated SatNav) is operated by the buttons on the steering wheel, meaning in effect it's really only the driver that can adjust things. The only exception is the CD eject button, which is next to the CD slot in the middle of the dash.

The little screen is actually a Multi-Function-Display and that includes all the information for the radio station, track, volume, etc as well as the Fuel, Trip, MPG etc.

Correct, above the CD slot is the airbag / seatbelt indicator unit.

There is an aux-in that could be used, which is a standard 3.5mm socket. Otherwise you'd have to get the optional accessory "iPod Integration Kit". Not sure on the price for that.
