Annoying Exhaust Heathshield Rattle

Hi guys,

I have a really annoying heatshield rattle. Toyota, Gillingham have diagnosed it as the Front Downpipe Heatshield. They have refitted it a couple of times but havent fixed the rattle! They say they cant do anymore for me, expect sell me a new exhaust piece for £900!

I have heard about jubilee clips and am willing to give this a go myself. Problem is, i know nothing about my car. Has anyone got a diagram? I presume I have take the nappy off and just find the right piece?

Many Thanks in advance,

A

Hi guys,

I have a really annoying heatshield rattle. Toyota, Gillingham have diagnosed it as the Front Downpipe Heatshield.

I think I just cured that same rattle for about 99 pence on eBay :-)

I am not sure if we are talking about the same heat shield but I think that you can use the same technique as described bellow:

On my car it was where the exhaust downpipes meet under the car. The shield’s that cover the joining pipes were that culprit (one on the top of the exhaust and one under).

Originally it looks like it had some weld holding it onto the exhaust but the welds must have cracked with vibration so the shields were a little loose thus rattled against the exhaust.

Anyway I got some fire proof stove rope on eBay, wrapped it around the exhaust pipe and then put the two covers on and as I tightened them down with the nut and bolts, the two covers clamped onto the rope so there was no movement in the heat shield... I have not heard a noise since
