This is what the handbook says (bottom graph)img027.jpg

4.2L (amusingly given the vehicle type!) with a filter or 4.0L without for the 1AZ-FE engine.

Oh and welcome to the forum. Haynes do a manual but if you want one make sure you get the version for this side of the pond not the American one. I've just ordered one from Amazon.

If you go back a page there are some pics (oil-dumb question) and Ancs does say some use 10W/40.

Thanks pmb,i've done a bit of asking around and most people say if we get another winter like the last one it may be a problem so i'm going to get the proper stuff just to be sure.

Hi - newbie here.

Few questions:

1) in the graph for the 2l engine (1AZ-FE), why does the graph for 5W-30 stop at 4 degrees? That seems a little severe given the same oil in the smaller engine is suitable for higher temps, along with the 10W-30 in the 1AZ-FE.

Does that mean that I should only consider the 10W-30, given uk weather.

2) to the poster's question about synthetic oil - is a fully synthetic oil suitable? Eg Motul 4000 motion?
