Sticky Accelerator Pedal

On Saturday I made a long road trip and I'm pleased to say my Gen 3 T3 proved itself to be a comfortable drive on the motorways (I'm mainly using it for city commutes). However, a few hundred miles in, after leaving some services, the accelerator pedal started to feel a little bit strange, like there was a little more resistance in a certain position. What could be going on, I wondered? I knew Prius's were not affected by the Toyota recall, but for affected cars they did say that unusual behaviour of the pedal could be a precursor to more serious problems. Was it something to do with the long, high-speed trip, and/or the slightly milder weather?

I decided to press on, but had to laugh at my next stop when I looked at the accelerator pedal and it literally felt sticky, after which I looked at the sole of my shoe and found the remains of a boiled sweet stuck on

Fuel economy was pretty good, by the way - I haven't checked the tank stats but it should be over 50 mpg and I was pushing on over the quieter stretches, generally driving for speed, not economy. The 50 mph roadwork sections made a big improvement to fuel economy, but since an additional 7 mph saved an hour of journey time (10 hours on the road) I didn't want to hold back when the raod was clear.
