Avensis 2008 Stata Handbreak Adjustment

Hi there all you pro's

I'm a proud owner of a 2008 Toyota Avensis Luna Strata Saloon 1,6.

I would like to know how I would go about adjusting my handbrake.

At the moment I would have to lift the handbrake more the 7-9" before she takes hard enough?

I check the pads all round and they seems to be all in very good coditions with loads left? - Not sure if the HB works on the discs though?

Thanx for any help.

Sh*t, don't know why I typed HANDBREAK instead of handbrake - sorry, I don't want to break my hand :D

The handbrake does not use the brake pads, it uses brake shoes inside the brake drum.

jack up the rear end of the car.

Remove rear wheels. One at a time, or both at the same time if you have a good lifter.

Temporarily install the hub nuts.

Remove the hole plug, and turn the adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.

Contract the shoe adjuster until the disc can rotate smoothly and increase until the standard

handbrake lever travel is achieved (contract the same amount on both wheels).

Standard handbrake lever travel : 8 notches.

Install the hole plug.

Install rear wheels.

Lower the car.

Tighten the rear wheel nuts.

Done.
