Radio - Mr2 Mkii (Rev2) L - Reg

I've read that to fit an off the shelf (non Toyota) radio to a MR2 MKII I will need to bypass an amp.

Where's os the amp located?

Is it easy to bypass?

If changing the radio is too much agro, would a radio from another Toyota, MR2 MKIII or non MR2 simply slot straight in?

Removing the radio is not a problem. I have the kit (loom) that allows for any radio (withing reason) to be connected to the MR2 MKII. The problem is with the active (I think its called that) sound system / amp. I read of an amp located somewhere in the car that needs to be bypassed.

All you need is the toyota to iso converter loom,

there are 2 different types, 1 for the passive system and one for the active(the one you have) system,

last time i looked they were both available from Halfords for about 10 quid.,

if you definately have the active system (with amp and subs behind the seats) then just buy the active one and it's all plug n play.

So maybe the loom I own is wrong.

The car is:

MR2 GT

L Reg

on the MOT old certs say: approximate year of use: 1993

new certs say: approximate year of use: 1994

Just buy the active loom, job sorted!

HELP!

I’ve fitted the new radio/cd player. Its made by Pioneer. I used the correct (active) loom to connect everything together.

The good news:

The radio powers up, and sounds fine.

The bad news:

When I start the car up, the Speakers emit a background noise?

If I turn the volume up, the music plays louder, the background noise remains at the same volume.

Any ideas?

There’s a blue wire (with a white line running along it). If this is disconnected, the radio powers, although there’s zero music, zero back noise. I have a feeling the blue wire might have something to do with noise.

Also, the electric ariel no longer auto extends.

Don't quote me but blue is usually remote power to amp and sometimes elec ariel feed,

Sounds like you need a supressor in the power wire or maybe a better earth to the unit that should cut out the interference.
