Hi, RE: my 2001 51 1.8vvti hatch SR

Noticed my steering wheel makes a squeaky sound...as if it needs greasing...Its coming just from the top behind the steering wheel...somedays its loud and others not too bad...but how do i grease it? Im scared to strip all the plastic covers off etc...could i just spray wd40 inbetween the gaps??? Please help

It may not be a good idea to start spraying anything around the top end of the steering column. Remember that where the electrical connections for the air-bag are located. Whilst the risks of activating the airbag are probably slim it may cause the air-bag not to deploy if required. Considering the safety aspects I would recommend you have it checked out properly.:)

Ive had three Avensis and each and every one had a squeaky steering wheel , BUT just during the summer ! something to do with warm weather ? I sprayed everything that it was possible to spray and it still squeaked ? Live with it or not thats the choice I reckon .

Mine does this too intermittently - had new column and rack (for different reasons) and it still comes back occasionally... ... thanks for the link
