My First Celica

Well, I just got my first Toyota Celica (been a vauxhall man all my life, but I've seen the light).

Tis a 1.8 ST, T plate, picked it up at the auctions, ex-fleet car, I think I have a bargain.

I have a few jobs on, and would like to do them all myself, any feedback and tips on any of them would be greatly appreciated !!!!

1. I need a new NSF Road Speed Sensor, been quoted £155 at Toyota dealer for the part - how difficult is this job, is this a good price ?

2. New outer headlight, again been quoted £118 for the part - how difficult, is this a good price.

3. The fuel filler cap release doesn't appear to be connected, I lifted the carpet by the drivers seat and pulled the cable which opened the flap. I guess I need to take the lever out and see what's up - how difficult is this ? is it best to remove the drivers seat ?, I've been quoted £45 for a new lever assembly.

Finally, the ABS light is on (see item 1 for reason), will the light go out when i replace the sensor, or will I need the ECU reset ?

Oh, one more, does anyone know if you can make the dashboard illumination blue in this year car ??, I've seen the mod on the net for the newer celica using LED's, but I guess mine has filament bulbs. Is it easy to get the clocks out ??

Thanks very much,

Cheers,

Paul.

Hello,

I have a P reg Celica, 1.8 ST.

I too have had a couple of these problems when i got mine, the ABS light, i had to have the ABS cable replaced which cost £230, as for the fuel filler cap, the drivers seat will need to be removed to get to the lever, but in my case the lever had just popped off and just needed some one with smaller fingers than me to push it back on, because it is all enclosed in metal and I dont think its easy to get to.

takes me about 30 mins tops to get my cluster out.. as for changing the bulbs to a blue colour - either get some LED type 194 bulbs with an inverted lense (spreads the light) or get some blue bulbs.

the 'stock' bulbs are a standard wedge type as found in the side repeaters (type 194). They have a green condom over the bulb which can just be taken off.

I did this myself with some bulb covers from AutoMeter but it's more of a turquoisey blue than a pure blue..
