Knock Sensor Check Light? After Rebuild

st205 :D

Hey guys

Just wondering, My check light came on just before I rebuilt my motor, (3sgte ST205)

And have done the rebuild and it comes on at 3k rpm, its not the connection as I have checked. So do these stuff out? or would it be something else?

would I be better off just getting an aftermarket ECU? if so any ideas?

And along with that, after the rebuild the Fans dont turn off? I have removed the aircon. but both fans are continuously on?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Rob

Hello mate, when you remove the air con there is a sensor on the pipe work up near the bulk head, you need to plug this back in or bridge it otherwise the fans will run constantly.

The knock sensor will need replacing as it is more than likely broke, they are quite expensive brand new so i would say try get a second hand one. Its a pain to change it as you need to figure how to get it out but when you have done it once it should only take you 10mins to do it next time. Remember to torque it up correctly.

I actually just done that aircon one as something on the list to do haha, and it worked cheers

I'll look around for a knock sensor, will buying a aftermarket ecu do the trick, I can get a Power FC for fairly cheap for a st205 is it worth it?

AND.... are the knock sensor's the same across all 3sgte's?

I'm not sure to be honest, i'd stick with one from a st205, don't drop it or anything as they are quite fragile. Yeh Apexi power fc's are quite a straight forward ecu and well worth the money. I'm pretty sure they show knock levels on the hand held commander.

okay.. I'll have to have a hunt around, Parts for these are impossible to find second hand. Might have to see Toyota for a genuine new one :(

Thanks for you help mate

it wouldn't be a bad thing to replace it with a brand new one, well, the only bad thing is the cost lol.

the PFC is a good unit, I've been using them for a little while now and have to say I was pleasently surprised, previously I'd slated them because of their lack of knock protection but after tuning with it I have to admit it is good.

there are other avenues you could choose though, E-Manage Ultimate's are a fantastic piggy back unit, they are the closest thing you can get to a stand alone unit without going standalone plus they keep the factory knock protection.

I'm in the middle of setting up as an Autronic and Vi-PEC outlet and have to say the Vi-PEC is a fantastic function packed unit, launch control, flatshift, traction control and anti-lag as standard unlike most standalones which you need to buy those functions on top of the unit price.

Also guys, Would the knock sensor contribute to holding boost at 10psi, in cold weather it will sometime creep to around 14 but even if you take the actuator hose off it wont free boost to fuel cut it will climb slowly to 10psi and sit there,

On a warm day I dont get even 10psi untill around 5k rpm in 2nd?

Have standard turbo with front mount

Cheers

the knock sensor won't have any effect on this mate. as for the boost it sounds like you've got a major boost leak. double ceck your entire piping

Well did it, Think there where a couple smalls leaks but nothing major, in the cold managed to have it spike to around 13psi last night..

But still boosts really slow, Turbo is a little Fcuked has a few chips on the propella, but no play in it?

Any other ideas?

Did you check both sides of the turbo? When mine died everything looked fine except for one damaged exhaust peller, bt the shaft had snapped allowing the two pellers to spin in opposite directions

No I havent? Was going to weld up the internal wastegate and Just chuck a external on untill I stuff this turbo lol

before buying a new turbo setup and doing the front mount piping properly.. It still goes extremely well just takes a while to get the boost up there.

Was dead even with a Evo running 272 cams full port and polish and exhaust Both of us running 10psi

So was stoked with that haha

Im suprised also, with the knock sensor buggered and it running under check light, with just a front mount and oversized forged pistons its running slightly faster then a standard Gt four

Would love to get the head done and a new turbo, but im dead broke atm haha
