Key Code

Bought a used 96 Camry. Came with one key that opens the doors and one key that turns the ignition. I'm sure when new it came with one key that opens everything and works in the ignition? The service gey at Toyota said the only way to get a new key was to dismantle the passenger door and find the key code hidden inside.

Seems like an awful lot of trouble just to get a replacement key??

Has anyone had any experience in this area?

Any other suggestions on how to get a new key?

My 97 Camry came with keys of two shapes. The square large topped key will open every thing. The smaller topped rounder key will only open the doors and start the car.

That way you can lock the trunk or glove box and let someone else drive the car with out them getting into stuff.
