Does anyone know what is required in adjusting the gear lever on an aygo. When we got the car it was tight as a duck's **** (not that I know about such things....). Now it is a bit like stirring porridge and would be nice to tighten it up again. It's only got 14k on the clock has already had one service and I don't think they picked up on it then and it has got progressively worse.

i would take it in to the dealer under warranty. Not sure if it is designed to be adjusted. Might be some excessive wear on a linkage etc

Think they are all a bit clunky but should not wobble about like a 1970 Renault's (Renault 5 et al) or VW Beetles which had connecting rods which wore at the ends.

Im surprised its as bad as you say. Dont think its adjustable.

For what its worth if you look under the bonnet, there are 3 cables going to the gearbox housing.

The one at the bottom connected to the long rusty arm is the clutch.

The top 2 are gearbox and have cables that are connected to shorter arms, disconnectable by pulling out a pin.

(With engine off) If you pull the arm of the top one back and forth (no need to remove pin) you should be able to feel it click between 3 positions these are

3rd, N and 4th, you can confirnm this at the gear lever end.

The middle cable is the left right action which centres so should only move if the top arm is in centre N position.

Beleive it centres by springs at both gear box and gear leaver ends. Dont think youd be able to move this lever with your fingers like the other one.

Might need to remove pin in top cable to access this arm, but don't do that, have someone shift about the gears and give gentle left right action in each gear to see if issue is at gear box end. Hope you can confirm its not.

Next look at the gear lever end. You should (with care) be able to pull off the gear lever gator by tugging at it, with a good ammount of material in your hand to spread the pressure, start at a front corner. moving around. You need too keep it flat to pull it out, once a corner comes out dont tug that corner further it will only lock in the other corners in more. With gator up and out the way you can see the gear lever linkage, as you move left and right the gear lever you should see that theres an arm at 90 degrees to the gear lever shaft which actuates another lever for the miidle cable we talked about. You will likely also notice that the housing of the linkage flexes quite a lot and will likely conclude this is were your porridge effect is? have a good feel around the housing to check its not cracked or broken. You can also confirm its screwed down properly.

Are you talking about how easy the stick is to move?

Or getting it into gears? Cos I find 1st and 2nd quite firm with a good click into them.

Also that when in 1st it shakes enough that one of my passengers thought I was in neutral. :)
