T180 Boot Lighting

Couldn't agree more... You solved the problem quite well, what did you use, LED strips which you just tapped into the wiring of the original light?

Where did you attach the strips to, the bottom of the parcel shelf? Nice place if you're not planning to take it off. Nicely done Rick

I could put a plug and socket on the cable but dont see the point as I never take the shelf out ;)

That's what I thought of too... And there's plenty of spots besides the parcel shelf you could've just stick your leds on to if you were going to be taking it out.

BTW are your leds cuttable? It seems like there's one long in the middle and two shorter ones on the sides...?

Rick what type of LEDs did you use to do this? And did you just tap in to the boot light electrics just before the bulb?

I have been meaning to do something like this for my avensis T180 as the boot is lots bigger then the auris and has the same tiny rubbish light. One bag in and the other side is dark. But I know chuff all when it comes to electics, or rather ive choosen to forget the elctronics/avionics/control systems I got taught many years ago But I can still work my way round car electrics I did used to drive french cars afterall.

I was thinking of putting some strips down either side of the boot somewhere. But i need to make sure they are robust and out of the way due to some of the stuff i often carry. Possibly even waterproof/ resistant as i often have my wet outdoor geat in the boot. Any thougths on what I would need or where to get it from?

Cheers Simon

Rick's selling some SMD LED strips for the footwell, he used the same strips for the boot.

Don't know where he tapped the wires into, but just before the bulb should be fine.

You're be going to need some waterproof SMD LED strips. You can find them on eBay. Just write Waterproof SMD LED strip in the search field or use the link. They are very slim and will produce a big amount of light. You can also just send a PM to Rick D4D and buy a set off him.

I dont know about you lot but I find the lighting in the T180 boot to be very poor / useless, so I have now upgraded this to a much better brighter light.

What do you all think?

Hi Rick,

excellent bit of work/kit.

my question is: I do often take out the parcel shelf (cyclist/bike/s etc etc)is it possible for you to put a plug in/ out connector of some sort?

Best wishes

Paul

The parcel shelf isn't the only place to mount Paul! If you'll be taking it out, you won't have the lightning at all. Mount to the sides and you should be fine, there's plenty of room for the strips.

I never take my shelf out as I have no need to so I stuck them to the shelf to give me maximum amount of light, but you could easily fit a connector like this to the wires http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Small-Tamiya-battery-connector-plug-socket-10cm-leads-/250497272920?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item3a52cd0c58

Thanks guys,

best wishes

Paul

I used the same LED's I make my footwell kits with and just stuck them to the parcel shelf and wired to the existing light fitting, I could put a plug and socket on the cable but dont see the point as I never take the shelf out ;)

Hi Rick - how many LED's mate? I bought some of your footwell lights (the £15 ones) and they are perfect. Like you, I think the boot lighting is a bit naff, so I'd be looking at doing something similar, but as I don't use the boot a lot, I don't want to go overboard on cost. It'd look nice on those dark nights when I take the wife shopping at Asda!

I fitted around 1m of the footwell lighting so this is around 60 leds, you could stick 2 x 9 led strips / 1 each side to the black panel trim where this meets the shelf ;)

Sounds good. I'll have a look when I'm next out at the car, gauge how I could do it and keep it neatly hidden. I'll PM you when I get an idea of what I want to do.
