IVE JUST RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A FLYWHEEL PROBLEM WITH MY RAV4. I HAVE JUST HAD TO PAY A BILL OF OVER £800 TO REPLACE THIS PART DESPITE THE FACT MY CAR IS BARELY 5 YEARS OLD WITH UNDER 50K ON THE CLOCK. I HAVE WRITTEN TO TOYOTA H.Q. JUST IN THE LAST DAY OR SO AND WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME SORT OF PROBLEM AS ME AND IF THEY HAD TAKEN THEIR CLAIM UP WITH TOYOTA. WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM YOU AS I INTEND TO TAKE THIS CLAIM FURTHER SHOULD TOYOTA NOT AT LEAST COVER THE COST OF REPLACING WHAT WOULD SEEM A COMMON FAILURE PART AT THE MANUFACTURE STAGE.

hi rav4baby !

welcome to the club

i had mine replaced about 2 months ago at 88'000 miles at a cost of £1500  ,so your £800 is farely cheap.....lucky you.

see in the 'pinned' section above all the posts / topics...is a whole lotta info on Dual mass flywheels.

toyota produced a modified version after a certain year to sort problem out.

again see the pinned section by 'Anchorman' for loads more info

apparently most modern diesel engined vehicles use Dual Mass Flywheels, due to the high amount of torque involved.

and you wont be the last out of all rav4 owners worldwide to suffer.

sorry its no consolation, but its just one of those annoying things with modern vehicles.

too much technology

hope this helps

by the way, when typing out your 'post' please turn off 'CAPS LOCK' as its as if your'e shouting.....many thanks

Yep mine went at about 70k replaced it myself. Don't hold your breath for toyota as they deem they have done their part by extending the warranty on that component. £800 is a really good price from a garage.

THE DMF is well documented here and has many cases and comments... best place to get all details for this is at the top of this section in the pinned  topics...  :) :)

My model year RAV 4 had the modified flywheel fitted to counteract failure, that didn`t stop one of the internal springs breaking which then proceeded to eat it`s way out of the back of the flywheel damaging the aluminium clutch housing as an extra bonus.

I did think about complaining to Toyota but I figured they have enough problems with poor quality as it is in any case it only cost £800 to put right with an old fashioned primitive flywheel that won`t fall apart.
