Avensis 1.8 Tapping.

Hi there folks wondering if any1 could help me with a problem.

My friend has a avensis 1.8 vvti with the 1zz-fe engine im sure. we replaced the engine last year because the other gave up the beans. well we put the new one in and it had what sounds like top end rattle so we changed the head over from the old engine which was fine before but the tappety noise was still there. he then heard it could be something in the inlet manifold which breaks and causes this so we replaced this aswell but to still not doin the trick.

would be very greatfull to hear any suggestion to what this noise might be. thank you derek

Just how "new" is/was the replacement engine?

Noises are very difficult to diagnose on a forum.

What people sometimes do is make a video, post it on YouTube and provide a link here for the specialists to listen to it.

You just might hear the Vvti mechanism working.

If possible go listen to a similar known good engine to have a reference.

Just some ideas...
