Tappety Aygo Black Re-Visited

Once upon a time there was a post about someone with an Aygo Black that was tappety when cold.

I think I mentioned that mine did it as well.

I eventually took it into the dealership before the warranty was up. They acknowledged that there was a problem and stripped the engine. They diagnosed it as piston slap and have re-built the engine with new pistons, block, bearings, thrust washers etc. All done under warranty.

The difference is remarkable. I had not realised how noisy it had become.

Full marks to the dealership in Ayr and Toyota for a hassle free repair, although I am still annoyed that I have a Dhaihatsu engine and not a Toyota designed engine. Would this have happened with a Toyota design?

Also full marks to the poster who suggested that it was piston slap!

Yes - That was my post! I wish I'd taken mine in - It's now worse than ever and out of warranty.

This coupled with the squeaky clutch and squealing brakes mean I'm now quite unhappy with my wee car.

My assumption would be that a Toyota designed engine would be far better. But it does cost an awful lot to design and build...
