1985 Corolla - Oil In Chamber Near Plugs

A fews weeks ago I notice a burning oil smell after being in the car for a few minutes. I thought might have been my leaking clutch fluid issue getting worse. After looking in the engine compartment, I noticed dripping oil and smoke coming from near the manifold. I then noticed an accumulative oil on the floor of my garage.

Well, just the other day, the car just stopped as I was pulling into traffic. I was able to park it off the street in a parking lot. I then tried to restart the car. Nothing! It would not start. I let it set for a while and then tried it again. It started, let out a puff of smoke then ran for about 10 seconds and then died. I then got it towed home so I could work on it. I went out to start the car and it started, but again for only 10 seconds or so. Thinking that I may need new plugs, I pulled off one of the plug wires and out pored a bunch of oil! $^%@%&$%&$

After pulling out all the plugs and removing the cover for the plugs, I notice an excessive amount of oil had leaked down in the chamber near the plugs. I then tightened down the valve covers and cleaned up the oil and the plugs, but the car still does not start.

Any suggesstions or directions.

Thank you!
