2Wd Rav 4

Hi. I,m new to the club and dont have a Toyota at the moment, unless a Lexus counts. However, I am looking for a 2WD Rav 4 to use for Classis Reliability Trials, that only allow 2WD, and for everyday transport between trials. I understand that 2WD Rav 4's were only produced between about 2000 and 2003, had 1.8 petrol engines and were known as NV's. Based on what I have seen in Autotrader, these cars seem to go for arround £5,000, which is more than I want to pay for a car that will be taken up some pretty rough tracks. So, my first question is, assuming that my understanding is correct, is circa £5,000 the going price for these and if not, what should I be able to get one for.

Previously I had a Suzuki X90 4X4 that I could take the front propshaft off to get the 2WD. Is it possible to "disable" the 4WD system on early 4X4 Rav 4's to get 2WD and if so, what has to be done.

Finally, for the moment anyway, does anyone know of a short wheelbase NV in reasonable condition going cheap.

Regards,

Peter.

on the 4.2 the front drive taps directly from the gear box so you have to take off both short drive shafts or just remove the rear drive shaft to create a front wheel drive vehicle like the nv is.

if you search on this forum you can find more info as some time ago i was playing with the idea to remove the rear drive shaft to create better mpg.

good luck

Thanks Bitman.

Whould what you suggest work on a 4.1 also.

Is the rear drive shaft the same as the propshaft. As I understand the system, there is a central diff that allows the system to be permenant 4WD. If the rear drive shaft is removed would the operation of the central diff prevent drive going to the front wheels. If my understanding is wrong I would appreciate clarification.

Regards,

Peter
