Toyota Customer Relations Reply About Brakes

Hope the attached works..105123059 toyota.RTF

There is no acknowledgement that the discs are GROWING not wearing away.

The extended warranty statement reads..

Section 4. Warranty Exclusions.

12, Where there is wear and / or corrosion to the brake frictional materials, brake discs, and brake drums due to the number of miles driven, the style of driving, or any other reason.

I'm quite happy to collate Disc / pad problems on 4.3's and take this as far as I can. Maybe on mass we can get this noticed by the media who will be looking for a new Toyota bashing stick when the election is finally over.

It's not the cost, it's a matter of principle.

Your full address is on that document just so you know, think it's terrible customer service especially considering recent Toyota events.

Stew

Write back and tell them you are not complaining about normal wear of the brake discs but a dangerous brake judder that is a function of abnormal brake disc wear. You deem this condition to be outside the scope of what is reasonable in terms of expected wear and as such the safety of the vehicle and the occupants are being compromised by parts that are not of merchantable quality. It is reasonable to expect that parts of this nature to exceed the quoted limit of 20,000 miles or 18 months and you are prepared to take the matter further and that you will hold them wholly responsible for any loss or consequential damage.

Hi A.M. Already formulating a response in my head but there's to many @£$%^ and *&^%* in it at the moment to send it!

Waited till my neighbor with the 'Gaylander' went out ( having been ribbing him since he bought it ) and whipped a set of Mr Ferodo's finest in. Made in the USA I notice.

I took a series of photos and when I get 5 mins (hours/?) I'll post how to change the pads if wanted.

Ferodo list 2 different sizes of front pads? There is a difference of about 3/8" in length. My 06, T180 had the slightly longer pad, so check before you buy.

Seems like my 4.3 defect list is growing... Must be time for the defect top 10 soon?

ah fink ancs is trying to say that the brakes are not fit for purpose.

On the pad stuff.its whether the pads are baked properly on manfacture (info geleaned from the wizard hisself - ancs)

If the calipers are binding - ir pistons/shoe not retracting then they will hold pad on red hot disc and pad material will be transferred thru wot I call a simple welding process. Up to now, in 16 years of toyota ownwershir, its been a claiper fault identified evenetually. The racing RAV was a manufacturing fault as well, but then it was made in England and I blame thge politicians.....

The discs are still the original items. I di notice that the aftermarket pad was slightly narrower than the OEM pad. This pad clears nicely the ridge left at the edge of the disc. I'm going to give the M27 a bash at reconditioning them.
