Iq3 Auto S And B Settings

We have recently purchased an IQ3 auto, proving to be a great little car. Very few miles on the clock so treating it with a certain amount of respect.

With previous autos I have driven the S setting means Sport, never had a B setting.

Is this the same with the IQ ? The handbook just says (as far as I can see) the S and B settings are used for braking.

If S IS sport, what is B ???

Rgds

Edit : On one of the reviews, ther reviewer refered to a "winter" mode. Does that mean anything to anyone, nothing in the handbook.

As far as I know the 'B' mode is for breaking when going downhill rather than freewheeling. This is the same on many Toyota and Lexus cars with non-traditional auto gearboxes.

Thanks the reply re B setting.

The S setting seems to be sort of sport mode, puts the gear box into kick down mode. Well as much as this type of gear box allows it, Being more used to traditional automatics, it is quite different to operate.

I realise I missed your last question. I have never seen any reference to winter mode on the IQ. On traditional automatics it normally mean they shift up very early to keep engine revs low (and consequently torq) this reduces the likelyhood of the driving wheels spinning. The IQ has traction control which will help to maintain traction in slippery conditions. So you don't really need a specific winter mode as long as you have the TC on.

'S' mode is normally the opposite of winter mode (if such exists) and means the gearbox shifts down early and 'hangs on' to lower gears for longer before shifting up. With intelligent CVT gearboxes, the sport mode also make the CVT simulate gear changes by moving from a continuously variable gear ratio to changing between a number of fixed ratios. All very clever stuff.

'B' mode is for breaking while coasting downhill. Saves fuel and breaks. Doubt it will make a huge difference on a small car like iQ.

S S restricts the upper limit of

gear ranges and controls

engine brake force.

B Steep downhill driving

So I assume S gear gives more acceleration in exchange of fuel consumption??

I am quite confused about all these setting...

If I want to maximise fuel economy, I should always use D instead of S gear and I should always put ECO mode on.

AND

When I want to accelerate better, I just switch to S gear and ECO mode off.

Is that correct?
