Broken Wheel Bolt

How do,

Just thought I'd put up a post and admit to my stupidity in the hope some mechanics read this forum. I have a 2007 Corolla Verso T180 and I have just managed to snap off a wheel bolt.

I was trying to remove a flat tyre but couldn't get the bolts undone. In the end I used about 16 stone of body weight and a size 12 foot. The stud came loose, but only because I snapped the bolt off inside the stud. It was only then I remembered it lefty loosey and right tighty!

Couple of questions really, what have I broken, do I need a whole new front hub and if so what is that likely to cost, or can a new bolt be fitted?

Also the other 4 studs and bolts are fine, so I am hoping it will be safe to drive to work tomorrow and Friday, (100 miles total) and I'll get it repaired next week when I don't need the car.

Any info would be a help, including whether driving the car is just suicide!

should be fine to drive carefully with the other bolts tightened correctly.

you will need a new wheel stud (shouldn't be too many £'s) depending on your tools etc you can fit yourself the stud presses in from the back of the hub so you will need to remove the brake calliper and disc.

knock the old one out with a drift and put the new one in. then use the wheel nut and a packing piece to 'pull' the new stud into the drive flange.

refit calliper and disc and away you go.

check the tightness of the new stud after a few days to make sure its ok.

failing that it should only be maximum of 1hrs labour at a garage

That's great I appreciate the information.

I've got to go to Hull at the weekend now (300 miles round trip). I have driven the car today and it felt fine, I also checked the other nuts where tight just now when I got home and there are.

Really pleased I don't have to replace half the car, and I think I should be OK to go to Hull and worry about the repair next week - do you agree?
