Judder When Using First Gear

Hi - A newbie to this site.

I've got a 53 1.8 model and nearly every time I start moving, if the revs are not just right I get a fair amount of judder. Its not the clutch and appears to come from the drivetrain. Two years ago it failed its MOT on excessive wear in the driveshaft. The main dealers solution was a new assembly at £1k plus labour - no way was I paying that. The garage that did the MOT (not a main dealer) managed to find a company that re-tightened everything and all has been OK till this year when it is starting again. The point is, I noticed there was a recall relating to 'steering - wear of the intermediate shaft spline' recall number R/2004/066 and I wonder if the two are related. Has anyone experienced severe judder when starting off in first gear? How do I check (without paying for it) on whether my car has been recalled?

For sure I have no intention of forking out for a new driveshaft assembly as this comes on top of another problem seen by many contributors to this site on an ECU problem which looks like it may cost a lot to fix.
