Replace Or Run To Death Engine

I have a Toyota rav4 95(N) with some very heavy mileage (141,000) the tappets are getting louder and alittle slower on the power. I love this car a hell of a lot and was thinking of getting a recon engine, the body work is in great shape and she is just to reliable, getting to the point would you recommend the recon engine or just let her die an honorable death and try and get a new shape Rav4.

i'd change the engine, if you love this lady yet.

the gold rule - you ll not sell her at good price with problem engine. if body works is still in order then it is better to change the engine, i think. Cheers/Igor

welcome to the forum. I have 2 3-door 1994 RAVs - although both have been upgraded with a 3SGTE turbo engine to make life interesting!

The 3SFE engine sounds as if its getting a tad old, although the car is obviously good for many more miles. I'd perhaps ask a Jap car tuning specialist to give an opinion on the engine /check compression etc before doing anymore. The good news is that there are a good few 3SFE engines available.

My number 1 RAV is well over 170k miles now still on original gearbox and transmission!
