Cannot Open Toyota Carina E (Hatchback) Boot Door

Hello Everyone,

I just get here by searching online for help.

Yesterday I went back from Tesco trip and found I was unable to open the boot door. The key did not turn (which works fine for both passenger and driver doors BTW). I also tried the release button beside driver seat. This failed me too.

Finally I had to climb into the boot from the back door to unload my shopping bags -- what an experience!

I tried all sorts of things suggested by various people here:

1. Tried WD40 on the lock (failed)

2. I managed to feel the spring connected to the lock inside the boot, which seems fine.

What could get wrong? It was perfectly fine before the shopping trip.

Is it possible something blocked the release part of the lock? Is there any electric wiring involved here (sorry I do not know this at all)?

Any help would be really appreciated.

HI,

Sometimes the linkage arms get stuck. You have to climb in the car and take away the boot-door lining. Then you can try to get the linkage in the right position. Try to get the linkage close to the lock itself first. I had the same problem with my estate a month ago or so, also after we had been shopping.

I used to get a similar problem. The linkages come adrift inside the boot panels, it seemed to happen to me when someone was trying to open the boot just as I blipped the Central locking.

I hope you find it to be any easy fix.

where are the linkages in the boot on a Carina E 1995??
