Confused Cambelt Or Chain

Hi guys there seems to be some confusion over what Avensis models have a Cambelt and which ones have a chain,,According to AutoData the same engine code can have either,,

Well I've had a good look at mine, a 2006 2.0 D4D and it certainly looks like its a chain, as the fuel pump is driven directly from the camshaft and not via a pulley and there are no obvious plastic covers anywhere to remove that would normally give access to the timing belt.

Please can someone clarify

Thanks Paul

If theirs not any plastic covers then its a chain but i'm not 100% certain.

Thanks for the reply, since I posted I've found out that the face lift models IE indicators on the wing mirrors etc are chain driven "Thank God"

To Cab262.

D4D Avensis from 03 to 05 has cast iron block with alloy head and is belt driven, belt being covered by plastic covers, engine code is 1CD-FTV. 2006 model onwards has alloy block and head & is absolutely 100% chain driven. Autodata has a different code for later engine, unless you have picked up late 2005 model that has sat around & been sold on a 06 plate.

Regards, Beagh.
