Auris Stop Start

I was thinking last night would it be possible to add stop start technology to our T180, it does not seem a lot but I bet over a year the fuel / cost saving would be a lot with our £1.20+ diesel prices

I don't think that any turbocharged diesel will have start/stop technology. Changing turbo will cost fortune, when it is done once a year :P

Start/stop is far more than the car switching itself off at a standstill. It has a wealth of electronic gadgetry to make it work, plus the starting system is different. It has a starter motor that is continually running on the flywheel to make starting easier and quicker

Absolutely Kingo :) It's very clever and seems foolproof. Just the other day pulled up and let clutch out (stop start cut in), but went back into 1st before the engine had actually stopped. No problem, it silently span up and restarted, just a brief instant blip of the revs... brilliant. It's so quick starting too... you can't beat it with a quick gearchange into first... it's up and running before you.

In 1500 miles it's showing 1hr 30mins of ECO meaning the engine has been stopped for that long... and that's on my longish runs with A/C on (which limits each "off" to a max of 22 to 25 seconds or so). Turn the A/C off and it will stay stopped as long as required.

So you in 1500 miles you saved 2 liters of fuel wow.

I don't like does complicated systems that should save money - don't think they are

Remember that's for me :) and my type of driving... I expect to go 15 miles or so and have the stop /start activate only 3 or four times. On the occasions when I am in "town centre traffic" the stop/start does keep the average mpg up. If most of my driving were town centre then that ECO figure would be several hours stopped.

So the argument for a hybrid for me doesn't stack up... it's not going to be running on Battery all that much.

What I can say is driven carefully (and that doesn't mean crawling) I can get 51mpg from the 1.33 Auris.

Agree with Parts-King, the Stop/Start uses a special computer chip, clever stuff. Retro fitting isn’t an option (the same with VSC/TR) 5500 miles and its showing 12hr 40mins of ECO.

Averaging between 45 and 51mpg with around town and mixed driving.

Drove from Struan on the Isle of Skye to Stirling today on A roads in my 1.33 Auris. Car has two people on board, back seats folded and a fully loaded boot (up to window line). Journey included some mountainous stretches (A87 over the Cuillins, A82 through Glencoe and A84 to Callender). At speeds of between 30 to 70 throughout the journey and with the air conditioning on for half of the journey, the car averaged 47.9 miles per gallon.

Sounds respectable enough. And thinking of your other thread, oil consumption zero ? :)

Yes, the same as my previous Corolla - zero. Though it was worth getting some oil just in case. Looks like the Ford and VW dealerships on Skye have closed - so had I needed to buy any oil, the choice would have been quite limited.

My Urban Cruiser is averaging about 50 MPG with mixed driving and the A/C was on all weekend! When I fist got it (Back end of last year) I was only getting around 45 MPG in the colder weather

Kingo
