2009 Avensis Sat-Nav Issues

Hello, I'm a new Avensis T4 owner (1 year old 2009 registration) and new to this forum.

Overall the car has been very satisfying however the HDD integrated Sat Nav seems to be directing us in odd directions sometimes! We have switched off all the traffic rerouting options but it still does some strange things. For example, I set up a route to a location a very short distance from my house and the suggested route for Quick 1 was a far longer and less direct route than Quick 2 in distance and time by the car calculations. However there are some roadworks about and I am wondering if despite setting the traffic diversion setting to "Off" it still takes this into account for some reason during the calculation. Or perhaps the car route calculation has a preference for major roads? But I haven't found any setting of that sort.

If anyone could shed some light on this that would be good; there may have been something I've missed.

Many thanks,

Greiggy.

I doubt you have missed something.... I say this as I have noticed ALL sat-nav units regardless of who manufactured it come up with odd directions at times. Disregard what it says if you know the route.... if you don't know the route you won't know that it is sending you along an odd journey anyway :D

Think of it this way.... if you get two or more drivers together and ask their suggestions as to how to get somewhere you will generally come up with the same number of variations.... sat-nav or human, they are all different

I am also very unhappy with the very poor route selection on the Ugraded Hard Disk SatNav,

I complained to Toyota and received a map upgrade to the 2010 map, but that of course didn't affect the fact that it recommends going North about the M25 to go from Portsmouth to Dover. Thus adding 2 hours and 100 miles - crazy.

Think of it as a challenge - you know the route you want, keep adding waypoints till the SatNav gives in and lets you go the way you want. Feel good - you beat the machine.

Ah okay, I'm glad it's not just me who finds some of the routes a bit puzzling! The strangest thing for me was the fact that the car has on occasion clearly stated Quick 2 and Shortest were both faster and shorter than Quick 1 - surely Quick 1 should default on the fastest route the car has calculated? At least it has been slightly more sensible since I switched off the traffic features, as it was rather over zealous (proposing huge detours for very minor roadworks) in that respect!
