Light/number Plate Board

Does anyone know how easy it would be to fit a socket for a rear light board?

I'm looking to get a rear bike carrier before we go away and because the bikes will obstruct the number plate and some of the lights I need to buy a light and number plate board.

They seems to have a standard plug but I don't have a tow bar fitted so don't have the socket fitted on my car as standard.

Cheers.

Its not that difficult, all you need to do is get access to the rear lights from the boot, work out what wire does what with either a multi meter and connect each wire. They should come with blue snap on plastic things that you simply put the connecting wire in and squeeze it together and that breaks the sleeve and gives you a connection without cutting the wires!

Dead easy if you are handy at a bit of DIY

Buy a trailer board and a 7 pin socket with wiring, both are cheap as chips from a trailer/towbar company

You will need somewhere to fix the socket to on the outside of the car, but this should be easy enough with a bit of bracketing

Wire up the socket and away you go. Try not to use scotch locks to join the wires, they are pretty rubbish and lead to all sorts of earthing problems, the last thing you want is to wire it all up and then have some lights half working or coming on with another light

7 PIN WIRING CLICKY

Why not buy a high mount carrier. The bikes sit above the number plate and lights are visible through the bike wheels.I just bought one at Halfords, 33% off. Easy to fit and can carry two bikes on a saloon but three on hatchs and estates.

When you get the kit, there is normaly an explanation (if you specify the car you need it to) which wires to connect it to (color and location) - at least that is my experince.

I would not personaly use the door hanging racks, as I heard (and seen) some scary stories with them. I also need to carry 4 pairs - too heavy for door ones. I have therefore installed a tow bar, and use a Pendle carrier - it take seconds to fit, and much safer.
