2001 (X Reg) Remote Locking Not Working

Hi,

I have an X Reg (2001) Avensis 1.8 VVT-i. About a year ago I damaged my key; the unlock button fell off and was left with the bare switch terminals. I have managed since then with using the key to lock and unlock. (Ocasionally I would accidently lock with the keyfob and have to short out the unlock button terminals!).

I bought a replacement key and fob from eBay and had the blade cut. I then, during a visit to the local toyota dealer for something else, asked them if they could set up the keyfob.

They had a go but were unable to do so.

To cut a long story short, I got back and decided to repair the old key by put the new button onto the old keyfob board. This worked and I now have my old keyfob buttons working. However neither button works with the car. The little red LED on the keyfob lights and flashes but nothing with the car.

I tried the various guides on here to program the keyfob but I can never get the car to acknowledge (most the guides mention about the locks should lock and unlock to confirm).

The immobiliser is working fine just not the keyfob buttons.

Can someone confirm the exact process to get them working again?

I have tried changing the Battery but the car just doesnt respond to either of the buttons.

Anybody know the trick to pair the car and fob again?

I had the same problem with my 1998 model avensis i sent it in for a service after i had bought a new locking system for the drivers but did not have it fitted as the part arrived after the car came back out of the garage. when i went to the car i accidently pushed the key fob and realised the car was locking and unlockin i asked the mechanic what he had done to get it work he said nothing he had diconnected the Battery whilist fitting the new cam belt i asked him how long he had the Battery diconnected from the car he siad about 30 min to an hour. try diconnecting the Battery from the car for 20 mins when you reconnect the battery the car should refresh the central locking and alarm system.

Just tried this but its not worked. When I disconnected the negative terminal the alarm started beeping like it used to do when you pressed the lock remote button with a door open.

Oh well I will just have to stick with the key in the door approach but its a shame as it doesnt activate the alarm.

I had already tried that and I have just tried again but nothing. The guide says that after I turn to on and then off and remove the key, the central locking should lock and then unlock however I get nothing.

Any other ideas or should I just give up as a bad game?

Have you got the original transponder chip in the new key? Chips from old keys will not reprogamme. At least put a new unprogrammed transponder chip in eBay key.

Ah, is that the imobiliser thing (little black block inside the keyfob module). I basically have the original keyfob and module etc all together. I just used the microswitch off the eBay key to repair the original. I think Toyota managed to unpair the remote and the car but from what I think your saying, when inserting the key, the car is thinking that that the key is already paired.

So if I change the little black box from the eBay key into the existing key and try that?

I've tried putting the new unprogrammed transponder in but I get the same thing - nothing.

Think I will give up now as a bad job.

Thanks for all your help
