Here's Our New Iq, And The Man Who Sold It To Us

Last week friday, we took delivery of our new 1-liter IQ. I love the car!

I'd like to add that it wasn't by any means a foregone thing that we would end up choosing the IQ.

The argument against the IQ is the same as the one in favour of it: it doesn't seat four.

For us, it was a balancing act between not paying too much for our new car, and still ending up with something I like...

The choices were between a VW Fox or Polo, and a Skoda Fabia. All of these seat four. All of these ended up costing too much in the version I wanted.

I ended up opting for the IQ because the 1 liter engine is excellent, it has just the right mix of equipment that in the VW variants all need to be paid extra, Toyota Belgium grants 5 years guarantee and, most importantly, ... the IQ "has something".

However, one of the major reasons we did end up signing the dotted line, has to do with the effort of the man who sold it to us:

Mr. Karim Hassani who, whilst at all times having been an enthusiastic proponent of the IQ formula, at all times left me free to my own choice, never "pushed" yet, at a time when I was about to drop buying a car altogether, gave me that single phone call that ...made the deal, right there, right then.

Here he is, in the picture, at the time of my taking delivery at Toyota City, Zaventem, Belgium.

I thought all IQ sold in Europe came with a fog light.

Anyway, I've been struggling between the new VW polo and IQ too and we both made the choice for an IQ :)

And I am proud to say that I did not regret about my choice.

It definitely does seat four! It might not seat four in luxury or comfort to be fair, but we used ours this weekend to take my parents to pick up their new car (MX5 - deffo doesn't seat four!). An adult behind the driver car sit at an angle with their feet partly in the section between the front seats and partly sharing the floor space of the passenger behind the front passenger seat. Okay, we're not a tall family, but we managed to transport 4 adults about 20 miles without any grumbles!

Hopefully this revelation doesn't mean that you will have to sell your new iQ ;)

If the driver has got long legs he can't safely get his seat forward to leave place for a 4th passenger behind him !

Yea, it is very uncomfortable either... If I need to fit 4 ppl in the car, usually I will let my gf to drive it as she got shorter leg.

Well, as to the "seating four" discussion, I look at it from a personal vantage point: our two sons measure, Nigel 1m85 (6ft 1in) ...and... Arun (ahum...) 1m93 (6ft 4in). Getting all four of us in the car, for example to go to restaurant together, would be -almost- possible on the leg towards the restaurant, but I'm sceptical as to fitting all of us into the car for the return trip, even with Nigel (who drinks only water or soft drinks) in the driver's seat. Seems some of you guys are fans of the "nineteen girls in one Mini" school of thought! :-)

About fog lamp in Europe, that might be a misinterpretation: the (sole, red) fog light in the rear, yes, is standard issue. But not the fog (head)lights fore, they are optional. Since my photo shows only the car's prow, you must have thought fog (driving) lights.
