4.3 Gearchange

Hi All,

had my 20,000 mile service done ( at 16,000 miles if that makes any sense ) about 4 weeks ago. Ever since the gearchange particularly between 1st and 2nd has been much worse than it was originally. It is almost as thought the synchromesh is not working. Should this settle down after a few hundred miles - though I can't see why it should? Anyone else with the problem?

There is no real reason why your gearchange should have changed following the service - they probably didn't even change the gearbox oil. It has been reported lately that the change does seem to be better following an oil change but they have taken it out of the schedule and it is now only a requirement to check the level for the whole life. If you want to change it the process is dead easy but the oil is only available from Toyota and is hellish expensive. Kingo will supply it at a good price.

Other than that, they are all notchy from 1st to 2nd and if you look at the recent posts you will find details of a mod to the cable bracket that will make it feel somewhat nicer unless your vehicle was built after May 2007, it should already have it.
