Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum; please be gentle!

I've had my '09 Avensis D4-D Tourer for about a week and so far I'm very impressed, I've covered approx 700 miles very comfortably.

The car will be used for work so I was pleased with the 51.6mpg returned this week.

I would like to fit reverse park sensors using an after market kit but I'm a bit worried about removal of the rear bumper panel.

Has anyone out there fitted sensors themselves, and if so how do you remove the bumper?

Thanks

Hi,

Have a look at this weeks Auto Express, they have a 2/3 page article reviewing the diy kits.

I have fitted 2 kits to different cars, Picasso and Almera. Its pretty easy to do, I didnt take either bumper off. Just reversed the car onto couple slabs to give it some hight and then reached under. Make sure that were you want the sensors there is room behind and its accessible, if its not then you'd need to take the bumper off!

Thanks for the swift replies!

I've had a good look behind the bumper cover and there appears to be a fair bit of room below the metal support bar to install the sensors at the correct angle.

I would like to spray the sensors to match the car, which raises another question. Where do I find the VIN plate to get the paint code?

On the Picasso the paint code was on the side of the drivers door below the lock! I am not too sure on the Avensis as the Picasso was a code like 346RX something odd. Think the vin number is on the bottom of the windscreen but may be wrong!

hi cec

i dont know if you have purchased your reversing kit yet.

but if not i suggest you try these www.ecs2.co.uk.

big choice, i recommend kit p1840v,this is a 4 senser kit,ive fitted two of these kits to mondeos, and as they come complete with the hole cutter, it makes things a lot easier.

i managed to crawl under the bumpe (a little akward when your 74) but managed it, but i dont know about the room

is like under yours.

can i suggest your look the same model as yours that has factory fiited sensors, and take measurments of of them.

measure outside sensors only. A= hight from ground, B= distance from outside of car, you may be able to alighn up

with a spot on the rear light lens to give the distance in.

once you have there measurment the middle two are equel distance apart compared to the others.

rember the old saying- measure TWICE cut ONCE.

make sure of all measurments, cos once you cut a hole you cant put back, if wrong.

only akward bit was spraying sensors to achieve a good finish, they do supply a choice of colours, but it costs.

maybe a contrasting colour may suit you.

these were recommended by autocar as the best buy a couple of years ago.

all the best.

let us know how you get on as it will help others.
