On a nice steady run like that you should get 53-60 mpg depending on traffic and speed. If you have it all day maybe check the tyre pressures before you set off. 35 front, 36 rear I think going off memory. Make sure you reset the computer before setting off. Its the top left button on the right hand side round switch on the steering wheel- you need to hold it for a few seconds to reset.

Let us all know how it goes.

If you're going up to Windermere and Ambleside, it would be a shame not to do the Hardknott and Wrynose passes. As long as it's not holiday time or a weekend, it shouldn't add too much time. then go down the A595 to get back.

The way the Prius goes up those is a revelation. And the fuel you use going up is recovered on the way down!

Make sure the test car has the same size wheels as the one you've ordered. I suspect there is a big difference between wheel sizes.

So the journey is easy. Just put the main destinations into the Satnav, sit back and relax.

Don't expect this drive to be your norm mpg if you have not regularly driven or owned a car that runs on a continuously variable transmission; it took me about a month of ownership before I mastered the best economical driving style while still sticking to my 'normal car' acceleration speed after a traffic light and driving at the maximum speeds any given road allows (i.e. Motorway, city roads, 'A' roads, etc).

Some tips from my experience:

- When at a traffic light or stop and you have enough Battery power then going into EV mode will let you accelerate to 25mph all on Battery power otherwise the engine (fuel) will kick in as soon as you pass the middle Eco line which could be at a low speed of 10mph when accelerating hard.

- When you get the momentum; let go of the accelerator and re-press and you will most likely stay in Battery mode; this works at 70mph downhill on a motorway too!

- When you get your car and use daily: Best to be in slow drive EV mode when coming home and parking as when you start the car again the engine will kick off until the engine has reach optimal running temperature (takes anything up to a few minutes); best to use this fuel usage time (which you cannot override) while moving as it also charges your battery.

- Long glides or slow sustained braking to a stop = battery charge time! Warning: will really annoy the guy behind you ;)

All the best!

sounds good ill try what u stated the real test will be when i get mine what sort of MPG ill get when i am working... skoda used to get 40MPG around town.

i had CVT cars in the past both of them fords :( got rid of them both when the CVT box's broke it was the CVT box in the prius that was my biggest put off.... last 2 taxi box been skodas with the DSG autobox was its ACE.

The Prius transmission is not CVT in the traditional sense. It should probably be called a Power Sharing transmission. It uses two prime mover inputs connected to a set of single ratio planetary gears to achieve variation of speed of the output shaft. Since it doesn't use the friction drives that are common in CVTs it should be a lot more reliable.

Glad you liked it....Now you know why I splashed out on the sound upgrade....The standard system is rather tinny and horrible, although I guess it could improve when you run it in properly...I have a Pantera cd you could borrow :-) Just put Cowboys from Hell on repeat and it will soon be loosened up...

the main thing with sound system was i could not find the stop and play button on the CD player. found it for the bluetooth streaming but not for the CD. it was a MP3 disk so dunno if that changes anything... only had the car for the day and did do 300 mile so didn't play with many of the settings.

On the Gen 2, I usually just turn the volume down from the steering wheel buttons.

The Gen 2 T-Spirit has voice commands to switch the audio off, change from CD to Radio, etc. It's been a while since I've used any voice commands, some voice commands seemed to work reasonable well for me, such as adjusting the temperature, the sat-nav was difficult to voice operate, and my favourite mistake so far was when the sat-nav informed me that there were no ice-rinks in the area - I was trying to turn off the route guidance at the time.

I would imagine the Gen 3 has voice commands also...

The Gen 3 does have a few voice commands but not as so detailed as the gen 2...there is no facility to lower or higher temp etc cause these are now displayed on the side of central console.......basically gen 3 allows us of telephone and maps but as usual the selections are not good and still makes mistakes.....

Don't have any play/pause controls on my T3 CD player either. Basically it autoplays when the DISC button is pressed and autopauses when FM (or non-disc) button is pressed or TA kicks in. Does it for audio CDs, MP3 CDs and WMA CDs. It doesn't even pause when MUTE is pressed (previous CD players have done). It's a little bit annoying but not the end of the world.
