Satnav

I bought a second hand Rav4 D-Cat 180 last year and it is now three years old, out of warranty and only done 20,500 miles. The satnav sealed unit, including CD player, failed completely some weeks ago. On visiting my local Toyota centre, which sold me the car, I was informed 'Toyota do not touch them'. I was further informed a restored (not new) unit would cost £3,000 to £4,000. The only other option was to remove the faulty unit and send it away for a diagnostic check, following which a report would be supplied informing me if the unit could be repaired and the cost of any possible repair. This was over five weeks ago and I am told the firm are awaiting circuit diagrams from Panasonic in Japan and it is likely to be at least two months before these are obtained. Then a diagnostic check will be done. Meanwhile there is a large hole spewing out wires and connectors for most of the dashboard!

Anyone out there who has had a similar problem or can advise me of best, and cheapest, course to take.

Thanks in advance. (This is my first effort on TOC so be gentle with me)

Welcome to TOC.

I believe there are aftermarket head units available with nav included.Try doing a google search

for a double din head unit.

edit, see link for the type the Americans use, a whole lot cheaper than the OEM ones.

Hi Dave,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply and the info which was most interesting. It's a place to start if my Toyota centre come back talking thousands of pounds. This is my fifth RAV4 and I do love the car.

hi mate

it is really sad story -- just for help -- you can visit this -- http://www.navigator-shop.ru/product/dvm_1500g_hd/ and this -- http://roadrover.manufacturer.globalsources.com/si/6008825432746/pdtl/GPS-car/1014642270/Car-GPS-Navigator.htm; http://cheledigital.en.alibaba.com/product/262007718-200665367/Car_GPS_navigator_and_DVD_player_Bluetooth_7_LCD_monitor_OEM_Fit_for_Toyota_RAV4.html

ssure it is in russian and english but the cost of OEM unit is triple less + they accept credit card.

try with them cos the repair of broken unit is money for nothing.

Cheers/Igor

welcome to the club.

Both my old RAVs have new audio stuff fitted - the old ones used to screw up tapes (wassa a tape i hear you ask??)

I can just pictur it - you wait 2 months and Panasonic send over the instruction in a local dialect japanese or Korean script!

I once bought a Fiat Punto cd from a seller on fleebay and it duly arrived - in best Italian!!
