Fuel Pump/fpr

Hey all,

I am away to fit my high pressure walbro fuel pump on sunday, how easy is this?

I also want to know how essential a fuel pressure regulator (aftermarket) is? and why do they vary from £30-£150?

also can i start my car up and drive it safely once the new pump is in? or do i need it remapped again?

Hey aj, i did attempt this when i was a total novice on the car but then realised i didn't have a double depth 17mm to get the straps off so gave up. I'd say you need more than one person unless you have a lift and something to drop the fuel tank on to.

FPR Helps you get more bhp while using smaller injectors, like get close to 400bhp on stock injectors i think, if you get what i mean.

I'm pretty sure you may need to tweek here and there on your map as everyone says when you put an upgraded fuel pump in it starts to overfuel, you will be able to drive it still. I'm not 100% on that though

Hey fawbs, oh changing the fuel pump turned out to be an absolute nightmare! That fuel tank cover was pretty stuborn! Have u gone with an external wastegate? If so what kind of screamer pipe have you picked as I am struggling to get a clear route for it

I just got a 38mm screamer off eBay, I have a 45deg relocation adapter aswell for the wastegate. Basically if mine won't fit (havent received the 45deg adapter yet) i have bought some 38mm pipe and will make a route for it to fit, i was going to get it welded back into the down pipe but if its a bit fiddly i will just leave it to atmosphere

Yeh I bought a pipe off eBay to with a 45 bend, if I point it right it hits the down pipe,if I point it left it hits the dip stick, so I think I am just going to cut and angle the pipe mysel!

Have you decided what water injection system your using yet? There is an aem one on funkypower for £300 that looks good

Sounds like i am going to have the same problem, !Removed! thing. Not yet, probably the last thing on the list, need to get an ecu next.

yeh i think it would start melting things if you just left it to vent without the pipe! I noticed you got a very tidy looking header tank, whats the benifit of that?

You got any ecu in mind?

Where will you be mounting the pump and bottle as i am quickly running out of room!

Swirl pot and header tank in the coolant system brings down temperatures and helps get rid of the air bubbles in the system which cause air locks. Also using the 205 water pump will help too. Theres a generic water pump that most companies sell, its the gen 2 design will metal blades but fits the 205 block, its of a poorer design than the plastic 205 pump and causes more cavitation creating air bubbles against your cylinders which can lead to cracking. I have noticed with setup which also includes trd thermostat and a bigger rad the temps are well down from what they used to be, haven't proper gave it some yet though.

For the ECU if i go for something cheap but good i would probably go for the apexi pfc, you can get them for about 550 upwards with the commander.

The wi tank i will mount in the boot so i can have a bigger tank, so don't have to keep filling it up. I think most people mount the pump where the charcoal canister used to be.

Where did you get ur swirl pot and header tank?

Yeh I have found a site that sells the progressive devils own system with a 2.5 gallon tank with sensor for £300

Thats the header tank but you can ring him up and get extra ports, what sizes you want, brackets moved basically anything you want. Don't buy it on eBay just ring them up and tell them you want that design and let them know what you want doing, cost 79 quid.

Swirl pot i can't find but type it in eBay and there's plenty

You need a return T piece where the tank drains into the coolant system, this is what i used.

Thats the guy i got mine off, either of them two aslong as its a rev3 onwards throttle body inlet. It may say ships to united states on one of them but that isnt the case he ships world wide just add it onto the price when you pay for it. It takes 3 weeks to come but you dont pay tax or anything.

Alrighty sir,

what fuel pressure did you set your FPR to? they range in price due to quality, more expensive ones will hold pressure more steadily and you usually get gagues with them to set them up.

if your wanting the screamer bent any more we have the equipment in the shop and could do it when your down  plan to be down for a full day for mapping, shouldn't take that but better safer airing on the side of causion

It's ok, we got the screamer pipe sorted. Ain't picked a regulator yet. What pressure should I be running on my fuel?

I now have my eyes on a HKS fuel pressure regulator, but i have been advised that I have to upgrade my fuel rail to accomodate it, is there an adapeter i can buy to prevent having to do this?
