Remote Central Locking

On the wifes Yaris SR the central locking doesnt always work from the remote key. I have notice it gets more reliable in dry weather and works (locks and unlocks) most of the time. Was wondering where the receiver electronics are located on the car so I can see if water is getting in?

Anyone know what to do to get the remote locking working every time?

Thanks

I would be taking the door panel off and checking the plastic sheet incase it's ripped or missing even.

There could be some electrical gubbins behind it that get moisture on them because of a badly fitting door seal, hence why it does it in wet weather.

I would check the key transponder if I were you. My key can unlock the car remotely but not lock it and its a !Removed! pain!

I once had a similar problem with my Yaris in some heavy rain.

I had to use the key to lock it, but I never had the problem again, even when it rained as hard.

Had remote fob go iffy once... opened and cleaned it, fine since.

Mind, there is a street not far from me, if I park there, the remote wont work... use they key, drive off, use somewhere else, works fine again! Strange!

I think it's worth trying both remotes, if you have them just to see if the car is the fault or the fob! May save you pulling bits apart without need, if it's the fob.

  • 2 weeks later...

My remote locking on my old Yaris GLS wouldn't work when there is a fine shower of rain I found this also the case for my Yaris SR. A bit more annoying with the SR as it's a keyless system, there is a key (stored away in the fob), but when i open the door with that it sets off my alarm . I just try not to use the car when its raining
