Toyota Aygo On Motorways And Up To 20K A Year

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am looking at getting a toyota aygo in the next few weeks. I will be doing a 80 mile round trip commute each day. This will mainly be on the A1. What MPG and range can I expect from the Aygo. Also would you advise on doing up to 20K a year in an Aygo. How does it manage on long motorway journeys?

Thanks

Depends on what the gradient is on a motorway. The Aygo is a 1.0 litre engine so its not particularly good on a steep motorway climb. The Aygo is a cheap car to run, but its better in town than on a motorway.

I recently did a 6 hour round trip Liverpool to Middlesbrough and back, using M62/M1/A19 and driving between 75-85. Worked out at 48mpg when I filled back up on return. Seems to cruise fairly easily at 80,but as has been mentioned, hills can be a problem. You will have to change down 1 maybe 2 gears sometimes. Normal everday driving I get about 56-58mpg and normally fill up at about 370-380 miles just to be on the safe side.

Yaris 1.33

Better quieter more comfortable safer dryer and just as cheap, 6 speed box £30 a year road tax and you will get 50 mpg on that daily journey you are doing

I use mine on the M3, M25, M4 and the M23 as well as town driving, I average 60 mpg and it happily cruises at 80 mph which is enough if there are any crosswinds.

It's fun to drive and cheap to own, get one you will love it. thumbsup.gif

Isn't the speed limit of a motorway 70 mph? :D

Well I find mine fine on the Motorway. Perfectly stable. The Yaris costs £10 MORE per year to tax, which is hardly a huge change, but the Aygo is also more fun to drive. Depends which car you like really. I'm currently at 435 miles since I filled up, and it hasn't 'bleeped' yet - very economical car indeed. Sure, it might struggle up a hill, but standard cruising on the motorway? Absolutely fine. Quieter than you might think too! :D

The Yaris with the 1.33 engine is coupled to a delectable 6 speed manual transmission and is an absolute delight to drive - it should not be overlooked.

Although the Aygo will keep up with motorway traffic, it should be remembered this is primarily a City car. It has 'T' rated tyres, runs 175 width and has 14" wheels - all of which do not lend themselves very well to a situation where, on a motorway at speed, you may have brake from speed or change lane suddenly. In such instances, the Aygo is not the car to be in. And this before you consider inclement weather conditions!

I would seriously consider a Yaris for the use you appear to have in mind.
