Toyota Service Plan

My local dealer has quoted me £464 for a 3 years service plan for my Auris TR 1.6 Valvematic. Do readers think that these plans are good value or is it better to pay for each service as it is done and accept that labour charges in the future may be substantially higher than they are today?

I jumped in too soon on this topic forgetting that a 'search' would probably bring up some useful comments, which it did. On balance I now think that paying for each service at the time is probably the better bet.

I tend to keep my cars a while so took out the service plan for 7 years. Costs £14 month and that covers MOT's too. Normally I don't like this sort of thing, but it seems to pay financially... the special oil for the 1.33L costs a fortune and MOT's are what ? £ 55 is it now. Also says (in writing:)) that brake fluid changes are performed as well.

I know from keeping the TSport 8 years and paying for a yearly service and MOT that the servicing costs were high for what is really little more than an oil change and inspection.

It might surprise you to know that the service costs are higher for the 1.33 petrol than the 1.4 diesel due to the oil used.

Hi, just done the same thing myself, I am paying £13.08 per month Interest free over the 3 years for my SR180 57 plate.

I am happy with this and with my local Mr T In Darlington. RMB Toyota.

So all in all, chuffed as little acorns!

Best wishes

Paul

Not to disrespect anyone who chooses to take out a service plan which can indeed initially look very good value.

However the reason these plans look so tempting is so the dealer has you tied in for additional work.

Brakes, tyres, and all the usual Kwik Fit nonsense.

Nothing wrong with that of course they are actually entitled to make a profit.

Of course you also get that lovely Toyota stamp in the service book.

Each to his own but not for me.

Do you mean additional work that is not needed ? Have you experienced that with Toyota dealers ?

That has not been my or our familys experience of the dealer I use (Vantage Preston, formerly West End)... even when I kept asking (every year at service) such things as whether the brakes were still OK on my TSport, even at 7 years old and on the original pads/discs I was told yes, still within spec and if you keep the car it's just new pads next year, the discs (even though they "looked" quite worn are still well within the wear limits. That's at 8 year old and 70k

Even when I had (the only ever problem in 8 years with that car) a weeping front shock absorber at around 4 years old I asked should both be replaced... answer, technically in theory yes, but the other is performing fine, no leaks... our advice... leave it.

No I did not mean to accuse Toyota dealers of Kwit Fit tactics.

Rather I meant the plans look so attractive but the real money is made on additional work.

Hi Guys,

can't get my head around these comments, surely, "additional work" would apply at any garage (Independant or Main Dealer) should any "additional work" be required? I know in my experience this to be the case, either way, I really could'nt give a hoot as I personally am happy with my lot.

Best wishes

Paul
