Worn Drive Shaft Has Caused Timing Belt To Come Off.

Hi

Our 2003 Rav has just had its timing belt come off. The garage have said it is due to the driveshaft being worn. The car had its service and MOT at the begining of Jan but there was no warning.

Should this have been picked up in January or could sufficient wear and tear occur over 4-5000 miles.

John

I'm no expert but would say that a lot can happen in 5,000 miles, bad luck John i would be well upset.

It might have been a worn something but not a "driveshaft" as such - probably a worn tensioner or pump drive. Those things wouldn't normally be checked on a service unless they were particularly noisy and even then with the owners authority as it is a big job to check (see pinned section).

It may have caused considerable damage so brace yourself.

Did you hear any unusual noises prior to it going?
