Hi guys.

Recently our 2004 D4D Previa had this intermittent fault of losing the power steering, usually during the morning when first in use. No fault lights appeared on the dash.

Now my wife was driving the car the other day and the engine management fault light appeared and just after that she lost the power steering and couldn't get the car into Gear. She turned off the ignition and started her up again and no problems have occurred but the warning light remained on.

We called Club Toyota who sent the AA - his machine registered the fault code P1251 but he couldn't tell us exactly what the problem is.

He cleared the fault light.

The fault is very intermittent at the moment - its occurred 4 times (normally just losing the power steering) and we've had the car 3 1/2 years. I've seen some posts on here relating to the turbo but as we're losing power steering i'm guessing at something electronical.

Jemca in Croydon have just told me to keep driving and ring them when it happens again, which is fine, but i don't want to risk losing control with 3 kids on a motorway or similar fast road.

thanks for reading.
