Avensis Interior Light

Can anyone help? My year 2000 Avensis GS D4D had a dud bulb in the interior light when I bought it this month. I replaced it and it lasted two days! Now I can't get it to work at all. When I tried a replacement today I blew a fuse (number 5 - I think it was) and lost the audio/sat nav set.

I can't weigh it up, when I put a meter on the feed to the light it shows 13V but I still can't get the bulb to light up from the door or the local switch.

Any ideas?

I SOLVED THIS, BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW. AFTER TAKING THE FITTING OUT (AGAIN) AND PUTTING IT BACK IT NOW WORKS!!! ON MANUAL AND ON THE DOOR SWITCH - HURRAY

If you've got juice with the meter and the bulb still doesn't light up then it's dud...

I had this problem too. It turned out to be the dome fuse was dicky it's called, when mine went it knocked out a few bits on the dash including the rev counter and the central locking, replaced that and put a new bulb in (the old bulb blew the fuse) and it's all OK again.

For some reason the earlier avensis' seem to go through quite a few bulbs. I have had similar problems. Change the bulb for a good one and you should be fine. I have also slackened the 'spring' holders for the bulb and that seems to have helped the longevity of the bulbs a little.

I checked the fuses, they are OK. I've checked all the bulbs I've been playing with - I now have 5!, they're OK too! I've come to the conclusion it's something to do with the control system - does anyone know where the timer is which delays/ramps the switch-off operation? It's the only thing I can think of.
