nobody can fail to notice how many times the question comes up WHAT DO i NEED FOR MY ENGINE.

I BELEAVE ITS TOYOTAS FAULT.

AS SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS IVE HAD OWNED SEVERAL DIFFERENT MAKES OF CARS BUT NON AEE SO VAQUE AS TOYOTA IS.

THERE ARE 2 SEPERATE PAGES IN MY AURIS BOOK AND SOME PARTS COTRODICT EACH OTHER.

ONE PART SAYS YOU MUST USE OW - 20 ( YES TO AID CONSUMPTION AND HELP GET IT NEARER THEIR CLAIMED ECONOMY.

THEN IT SAYS 5w - 30 IS THE BEST FOR FUEL ECONOMY AND GOOD STARTING

WHAT IS MISSING IS A SPECIFICATION NUMBER THAT MOST OTHER MANUFACTORS GIVE SUCH AS 500 OR 505 0R 507 AS USED BY

VW AUDI. BMW LOGELIFE 04,MB22931, O.PEL GM LL-B -025

YES PUT DOWN VISCOSITY GRADE 30,40 ETC, BUT GIVE SPEC NUMBER BEST SUITED FOR TEMPS IN THE UK.

BACK IN 1986 MY JETTA 1.6 TURBO DIESEL (TURBO DIESELS WERE AS RARE AS CHICKEN TEETH)HAND BOOK GAVE A LIST OF OIL

FIRMS IE Shell Castrol Mobil FINA DUCKHAMS ETC AND WHICH OF THEIR OILS WERE SUITABLE FOR VW ENGINES DEPENDING

IF THEY WERE PETROL, TURBO DIESEL, NORMANLY ASPERATED DIESEL (NON TURBO).

I REMEMBER BACK THEN Castrol ALONG WITH A FEW OTHERS DID NOT PRODUCE AN OIL SUITABLE FOR TURBO DIESEL.

IT WAS SIMPLE PICK OUT YOUR ENGINE THEN CHECK WHICH MAKE OF OIL YOU FANCIED JOB DONE WITH NO DOUBTS.

ONLY SYNTHETIC WAS Mobil 1 USED GET A PYREX DISH THROWN IN.

WIFE SENT ME BACK ONCE FOR ME TO GET A PYREX DISH FOR HER MUM ( 4 LTRS £17.00 )

MY LOCAL MR T USES Castrol 5W - 30 THE ME T WHERE I GOT MY AURIS SHOWED ME A CAN OF TOYOTA 5W - 40 AT THE SERVICE COUNTER WHEN I ASKED WHAT THEY USED , ANYWAY THEY BUY IT IN IN BULK SO COULD BE ANYTHING.

I THINK WHAT THEY USE IN THEIR WORKSHOP IS UP TO THEM. NOT LIKE FORD MAINDEALERS THEY MUST USE FORDS SPEC Mobil FE

OR IS IT PE .
