Heater & Ac Not Working

Hi,

I have recently bought a 55 Reg Avensis 2.2 Diesel. Between 1500rpm & 2000rpm the car was making a whistling noice. Had the car serviced, the service centre identified a problem with the Air Con Compressor as the AC wasn't blowing Cold air & said the turbo was fine & suggested that Air con might have something to do with the noice. The price they quoted was too high to get the air con fixed(£650+labour), I made a pass. When I got the car back, I noticed that the heater was also not working, even on turning the temp on high, the blower was blowing a static temp air. Took the car to a local garage, he fiddled with a few pipes under the bonnet & checked the fuses(none of fuse had blown all were fine), and the Heater came back on. It was blowing hot air again, this was last evening. I was curious to see if it works this morning, so turned the temp on high & there was no hot air blowing. I was going to take the car back to the garage this saturday to check the AC, may have to revisit the Hot air problem again. The whistling prb is not as bad as it was before the service. Please someone advise on the possible areas of concern & any possible suggestions to get this fixed.

Thanks

There are a number of causes for the problems. The heater, obviously check the coolant level, check to see if the hoses going through the bulkhead to the heater matrix are hot. If not there could be a blockage in the pipes or an air lock. The heater matrix could be blocked or there is a problem with the controls. For the AC check that the clutch on the compressor is engaging. Swith off the AC and on tickover switch it on, a noticible load should be heard on the engine. The refrigerant may need topping up. Have you checked the pollen filter to see if it is clogged up?.
