Hi there

I have noticed that my coolant has dipped below the minimum marker when the engine is cold so needs a top-up...

Is there a specific coolant I should use or just any old plonk from halfrauds?!

Thanks in advance

not sure offhand if they use 'standard' or 'longlife' coolant from factory - option 1) is use MR T's stuff, option 2) is use Halfords stuff - they do a standard and a long life version so no probs

basically if you compare like with like ie std toyota vs Halfords or a.n.other brand coolant or longlife vs longlife then they are identical (as long as not the old 'methanol' based ones - as long as it says 'ethylene glycol' on the label you're ok)

basically there are only about 2 factories in the world making ethylene glycol so it all comes from the same place so you takes your pick and you pays your money.....

Ideal thanks mate! ... got a long (hopefully hot) journey tomorrow so I think I'll pop down Halfords to get some!

only thing i forgot to mention is that if you mix std and longlife then you dilute the effectiveness of the long life and it wont last as long (same idea as if you mix 2 different grades of oil in that a 5w/30 mixed say with a 10w/40 (in equal measure lets say) gives you a sort of 7.5w/35

in short though - even if you have long life in it and you put a little drop of std in you will pretty much still be fine to go to the due time to replace longlife

(usual 'offer no guarantee/ comeback on any suggestions or info contained in these posts' type of disclaimer applies)

have a good journey/ turn up the stereo and the aircon and enjoy!
