D4D Head Gaskit

If it's of any help to anyone,i have a 2008 old shape avensis 2.0 D4D TR,after 68000 miles the head gaskit went,not in a big way, it started forcing water out of the expantion bottle,leaving pink residue when it dries,also the radiator fan kept coming on a bit longer than normal but at no point ever did it overheat

anyway to cut it short,when it was stripped down by toyota i was told that the head was warped and could not be skimmed and as my car had not been serviced by toyota(it was a proper sevice center using all offical toyota service parts & oil)they would not give me any goodwill on any parts or labour so bill would be have been in region of £3000,i pointed out that this is a recurring problem with several of these engines,they pointed out out to me that my chassis no does not qualify for the secret 100000 mile 5 year warranty just for this fault as the engine is updated and it has, or will have no issues because it's brilliant!

pass 3 weeks of lost sleep due to lack of funds for repair(car is a taxi so i cant work in it either)

Car now back at work and running fine after toyota paid for all the repairs and also fitted a new water pump as a precation!!!

great result but why couldn't they fix it 3 weeks when i told them about the extended warranty,it cost me £450 to rent another taxi for 3 weeks and it had no aircon on the hottest day of the year

First time i've bought a new car for 20 years and it lasts 18 months,that's progress!

Great news mate is yours the 2.2d4d mines been down for 3 months got nowhere with mine as yet toyota want me to pay all labour and consumables my engine is wrecked so needs a new one at 72154 miles 2008 car same problem. Have just finished a letter to toyota gb chairman to try and get mine done this is my last hope as trade is not good and the hire car is ruining me. Have had the case looked into by trading standards but no joy yet may have to go public with watchdog if my case is not resolved but i will probably go bankcrupt before then.

wish i could tell you why they relented with mine,some type of notice from 2007 is what they said,from what i've read the 2.2 is the biggest culprit,i know exactly how you feel,cab direct and the finance co didn't give a s!"t, good luck

Would appear to be a bit late to help you all out now. But you might like to try VOSA RECALL website to gain further insight into these problem's. All manufacturers are legally obliged to log any recalls regarding their vehicles by law via VOSA. It would appear that TOYOTA are just posting these problems as internal TSB's (so not technically a recall) to there main agents who would appear to be trying to riggle out of any warranty jobs in some caes.

I think the main dealers would love to do the warranty work as they get paid for it (all be it a reduced rate), but it has to get passed by Toyota GB before they get the go ahead!

Hi mate, i've come across a few of them in my time I don't know what they hope to gain ..... but I must say my local dealer is 1st class.

I really hope taximan1256 gets a good result as others have done, Toyota's warranty policy needs looking at, maybe there are also people with attitude problems at head office as in most companies.

glad you got a good result with your problem

i have a 06 avensis 2.2 d4d estaste ..64000m. and have just been told after a service that my cylinder head is probably gone as well .... pink (coolant) water over engine from water being forced out of coolent tank ... and vehicle useing a water daily !!!

in contact with toyota UK at the moment ..... (hoping for a extended warranty claim same as other members)

only prob at the moment is thay want me to pay for the engine to be stripped .... 8 - 10 hour then a warranty claim will be considered ........

frightened that i will end up with a huge bill

any other thoughts from toyota forum members on how to get a result with this obvious faulty d4d engine

There are procedures in place for out of warranty repairs. A TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin, nothing to do with a VOSA recall so the VOSA website will be of no use to you. When a known fault occurs and a car is out of warranty, the manufacturer issues a TSB to the dealer telling them what form of extended warranty applies, it might be from a certain chassis number range or for say an extention up to 100K miles or 5 years whichever is the sooner. If your car falls in the correct catagory, then your dealer can proceed with repairs in the knowledge that he will be paid for repairs. If it falls outside the parameters, then all he can do is submit an "Out of warranty request" to TGB and they will make a decision based on individual cases. When it is unknown what the actual fault is, the customer will have to pay for diagnosis work, if TGB are going to pay, then you get it back
