I am haveing a loud thump noise from the rear of my car after I take my foot off the brake . It doesn't happen evrrytime , but it is often. I know it might be the brakes but also would like suggestions if it could be a suspension problem as well. Thanks

Might be a stuck piston finally letting go or something. Does it affect braking at all? Does it happen at a stop, or in motion, or both? It would greatly help if you could be JUST A TAD more specific.

Is there a bowling ball in your trunk?

Tip of the Year: In the future, tell us your car model and year so we can better tell what equipment you have. (ABS, all-disc brakes, etc.)

It only happens when I stop and after I release the brake and start moving again LOL And NO There is nothing in the trunk making the noise. I am a neat freak trunk is empty except for jack and spare tire wing nutted in =) Maybe you can help no since you have specifics Thanks for the reply seems everyione has read but no one replies

To help pinpoint brakes/suspension bounce the rear of the car up and down. For brakes if there are drums on the rear come to a stop using just the hand brake.BE CAREFUL!! Does the noise happen then?

Have you noticed if you hear the noise if the gas tank is full or not? I have a similiar problem with my 99 Camry XLE, I hear a thump at take off and letting off brake but only happens when gas tank is full. When tank gets down around 3/4 full I don't hear the noise. Dealer told me that it was the gas moving a baffel in the tank. I have a 2000 Solora that does the same thing.

Drive your car balls to the wall for a day or two.

It will either make the problem go away, or exacerbate the current problem, and give you more clues as to what's going on.

No lie.
