Engine Issues

Hi,

i have a new toyota yaris 07 plate, it has a diesel engine and is a automatic. it has only done 1200 miles, because for the last year or so i have been in talks with toyota to getting my car sorted as it was under warranty until this march, unfortunately they would not fix it for me, for many reasons.

the problem is, my yaris was working and then suddenly just cut out, it was in neutral. it is now totally unresponsive, i have changed the Battery as i thought this might be the problem, but still nothing with the new Battery.

i get a key symbol with a line through it and have not been able to find anywhere what this means, any ideas?

also where would i be able to find a brand new engine? it is a 1.4 diesel.

thanks for any help and assistance provided, cheers

The manual says this symbol means "turn off engine, check key".

From the manual, it seems to indicate a failure of the "keyless start" system.

Have you got the keyless start system where you just press a button to start the car?

If you have, I suggest its worth changing the Battery in the key as it might be something as simple as that.

From the manual it suggests there's probably nothing wrong wit hyour engine, its the key that's not working properly - - either to trigger the keyless start or to unlock the immobiliser....

Sounds to me that you have been doing naughty things to the car, for Toyota to reject your claim for repair... If not, then they would be liable as it should be under warrenty and even if it just ran out, you could argue that they had the vehicle for much of that time as it was being repaired for other reasons. his denied you the right to use it and it sounds like it was not of merchantable quality..... If you have done nothing wrong, seek legal advice and complain, in writing, to the director of Toyota GB.

I agree with this, I was out shopping one day and the Battery went dead on my key. I had a Yaris with push-button start and could not start it, luckily there was a watch repair shop nearby who changed the Battery for me and everything was fine.

I suppest the Original Poster explains what they mean - as all may not be as simple as it seems...

My 50p bet says that because the mileage is so low, it hasn't been serviced each 12 months, in accordance with manufacturer's warranty stipulations, so that's why they are bauking over warranty claims...

Hmm, i was thinking along those lines aswell. 1,200 miles in 3yrs? I've never heard of any vehicle doing only 400 miles per year!

I hardly ride my motorbike these days and last MOT i'd covered 1,800.
