Well Thats The First 100,000 Miles Done!

Well I've just completed the 1st 100,000 miles in my late 53 plate D4D Yaris. Surprising as I didn't realise I'd clock up that much mileage in 6 years and didn't expect to keep the car that long.

I've used 12 front and 6 pairs of rear tires and spent about £3000 on servicing and parts (mostly at dealer prices).

Not bad to say that I only bought it becuase Toyota finance was half the rate of the banks so it made a new car possible. I've got to admit that I've a big soft spot for it now.

Biggest dissapointment

-last year having to replace the clutch assembly and gearbox bearings. The dealership I have always used, and had a service package with, haggled over the price (magically 30% cheaper when I told them I was going elsewhere - still went elsewhere as a point of principle). After spending lots with them I wouldn't expect to get over inflated prices.

Biggest advantage

- Its still easy, comfortable and reliable to drive and you can pack about twice as much kit in it as you think which is very useful for camping or diving.

I'm hoping to keep it for while longer yet without anymore major expenditure although the seat and suspension feel like they are getting a bit soft and it wallows a bit when loaded up.

Have you been tarmac rallying with it?? :o I got just over 40k on a set of rear tyres on my Accord and approx 20k on the fronts. :P

Ooops, not sure what I did with the figures there.

I've used 7 pairs of front and 3 pairs of rears. I get 40k from the rears and consistantly got 16k from the bridgestones on the front. I changed to goodyears and now get 20k. I also had a few unlucky punctures where it made sense to replace both fronts instead of repair one.

Definitely no tarmac rallying - well not yet anyway :D

Nice one, here's hoping for another 100k then! ;)

Just don't do any rallying!

  • 3 weeks later...

Goodyear tyres are very good. I've recently had to replace the front ones and put the rear (Goodyear) on the front which still have loads of wear in them (they're GT2s) and the new ones, the Duragrips's on the back. I've done 20k miles so far in the car so lets see how many I can do before I need to change them again.
