Welcome.

Sounds a good spec and a good mileage.

Air con, ABS, CS player and remote locking werre all the features that some cars didn't get of certian ages and specs and you've got the lot.

Its also a good mileage. You don't want a car that hasn't done a "reasonable amount of miles" for it age, becuase a car is better used regularly than left unused for long periods of time.

Both our kids learned to drive in my wife's Yaris and my daughter liked it so much she's gone out and bought on herself.

Insurance tips:

Assuming you are the main driver, you must put the insurance in your name. Otherwise the insurance will be void..

BUT

It often helps to add your parents on as named drivers - and that is perfectly ok, as long as you're declared as the main driver.

Because your parents will be a lower insurance risk than you, it actually reduced the insurance risk overall by adding them to the policy...

When my daughter was really young, we got good deals from Elephant and Endsleigh, so make sure you try them, but shop around online for a full range of quotes.

ALso, we've got a discount by putting all our three cars with the same insurer - worth getting a quote from your parents insurance company ensuring you ask for a multi-car discount...

Let us know how you get on....

Don't mean to put a negative in, but to me, the spec, year and price don't seem to match up too well. I understand it is of low mileage, and well maintained with a number of nice little options, but £3,500 seems to be asking a little too much!

Is this a dealer sale?

Sounds like a good price to me. The Yaris allways holds it's money more than any other small car with similar spec, engine size ect.

I paid £3500 for our SR 3 yrs ago, mind you it was (and still is) mint with only 1 owner, FTSH an low(ish) mileage then of 60k.

Even now, it's 10yrs old and i wouldn't sell it for less than £2500.

Oh and welcome to the club Scott!

Welcome to the club! My first car was a Yaris gls but was back in 2000, it had a sun roof as supposed to AC :D and I had to get the CD player fitted separately, oh and rear Speakers.

It was a really good run about I loved it so much I traded it in for a new Yaris 1.8SR in 2007 :D I still see my old car out and about locally and I can see the new owners are getting loads of joy out of it!

I think you paid a fair price for your Yaris as mine only traded in at £2500 at 7 years old, with a few bumper scrapes no alloys.

Thanks for the advice  !

As for insurance Endsleigh was over £7000 for me as main driver and my mum as additional! Elephant was unable to quote until I rang up like a lot of other insurers, the best one I have found is from churchill for just over £1500 but this is with me as the additional driver :/. I'll try I-Kube soon which is supposed to favour people like me... :D

I did get the car from an independant dealer and didnt mind paying the price for such a good car in excellent condition. I have no complaints with the car at all seen as it has no big scratches and feels like new. With the dealer offering free MOT and more I thought it had to be bought especially as there was a lot of interest in it. Under the bonnet also looks imacculate! I've seen dearer price tags than mine on similar cars so I think its worth it for what I got.

Will be doing the Yaris up, just adding small changes..

Still taking lessons at the moment, cant wait until i get the Yaris on the road :yahoo:

I bought a new 1.0 Yaris as my first car at 17... cheapest quote i got at the time was £1200 with my mum on as a named driver....

You'll find that after you've got 1yrs NCB the premiums start dropping nicely.... a new driver is statistically more likely to have an accident in their first 6 months of motoring... hence the jacked up premiums thumbsup.gif

My Yaris was the first car I could really call my own, I did have near sole use of my Mum's Mk3 Fiesta, but this was mere weeks before a little end went.

It's a high spec 1.3 2001, with only 1 owner before me.

Oddly it's got both a sunroof & a/c, & (now totally out of date) sat nav as an optional extra.

LOL on topic just....My first insurance back in 1994 at 17yrs old was £950 on an MG metro 1.3.....I remember crashing it in the snow and the next day unbolting all the panels and jumping on them in the snow to straighten them....Those where the days....That was a 1/4 of my monthly wages at the time on insurance!!! now I pay £21 a month on my T-Sport although I am 32 now!
